Transformation of a Hangar…

We wanted to share a before and after of Hangar A here on property.  With a space as big as we have and an imagination as big as our staff has…here is a before and after of what we did with our Hangar for a party.  Just another example of how flexible we are here at SUN ‘n FUN with making events truly take flight.

Today is all about inspiration…with an aviation twist. A great group of event professionals got together and let their creativity flow. SUN ‘n FUN was the host property for the photo shoot.  Not only did we get some amazing photos from this but it also ended up being featured on a fantastic blog, Every Last Detail. Behind the scenes at SUN ‘n FUN!

Not only is SUN ‘n FUN the host to the 2nd largest fly in worldwide AND benefiting education as a 501(c) 3 non-profit but its also a really fun place to work.  Although we work really hard, we are like a family.  Some people don’t know that we have 16 full time staff members year round, in addition to a hand full of part timers and thousands of amazing volunteers!

Today, we wanted to share some behind the scenes photos of our staff in action and some fun shots of our daily routine. We truly love each other and consider ourselves lucky to come to work every day in an atmosphere this great. Enjoy…

When you’re putting together a huge event like the fly-in, you have to have some fun in the process. It keeps our spirits up and the creativity flowing!

Lakeland Ledger Article

Who doesn’t love seeing members of their staff in the newspaper? Our events girls were recently mentioned in the Lakeland Ledger…ok they are not “new” but have new duties around here.

Here is the rundown of how we work out our events around here:

Christine Stephens is in charge of all the SUN ‘n FUN year round in house events, think When Pigs Fly South, our Hangar Door Canteen, Wings ‘n Things, etc as well as being the Executive Assistant to our fearless leader, Lites Leenhouts. Aymee Brace Good is our outside facility rentals and events brought in that are not SUN ‘n FUN sponsored events. Think weddings, corporate events, 5K races, baby showers and so on as well as handling the food service and facility rentals during our annual fly-in.

Either way, we love the Ledger and we love the mention!

Roller Derby anyone?

rockabilly_rebels_team_2012

So did you know we have a roller derby that calls SUN ‘n FUN home? Yep, you heard it right! Hangar E on SUN ‘n FUN property is home to the Lakeland Derby Dames and the Rockabilly Rebels (their traveling team).

Not only is it a really cool sport to watch and something fun to do BUT they also are the most amazing group of people. They actually were our “go team” and set up all our facility rental events during our annual fly-in. They took personal vacation time to help us out…so for that, we say support this group of awesome volunteers. Bring a friend or your whole family and come watch our favorite roller derby compete.

Get all their information online at http://www.lakelandrollerderby.com!

Engagement Sessions

We are always open to allowing couples to have their engagement sessions here at SUN ‘n FUN or at the Florida Air Museum. Sometimes the couple already has a venue and one of the two are really hoping for some photos with an airplane. We love it!  Here are some of our favorite shots on the property from engagement sessions.

We’re nominated!!

It’s no surprise to anyone that the staff of a non profit organization primarily work there for the love of the cause! SUN ‘n FUN’s staff are the epitome of loving our jobs and the aviation community.  The icing on the cake for us is recognition, mainly because it means that the awareness about what we do has reached another group of people.  Today’s recognition is extra special because last year our organization made the decision to bring in a full time staff member to promote our facility on a year round basis for events of all types.

The kickoff to our expansion was a party for Occasions Magazine in the fall. See the challenge around here is that we have SO many buildings that serve as a great venue for any event, its hard for us to contain our energy and condense the choices for a client.  For this event, we invited people in the events community to spread the awareness about our new year round mission.  Our facility rentals help fund aviation education and scholarships so we had to start off with a bang!

It was an amazing evening of wow and transformation, showing 2 spaces on our property and specifically showing someone how we could transform our hangar in completely different ways for any event.  A more detailed blog post specifically on this event will follow with a full acc0unt of each special touch put into the evening.

BUT…let’s put the cart before the horse on this one since we can’t contain our excitement any longer!  We are nominated nationally for “2012 Best Event Production of the Year” by the National Association of Catering Executives (www.nace.net).  We will find out at the national Experience Conference in Chicago, IL this July.  Fingers crossed for bringing home the prize and solidifying our expansion into producing world class events on a YEAR round basis in addition to our annual fly-in.

Thank you to everyone in the community for your continued support, to all the vendors who helped put this together and the biggest thank you on this one goes to Ashly Olivier, owner of Olivier Events, for all of her ideas, passion and expertise. This event would not have taken place without her!  She always goes way above and beyond for her clients and we are incredibly grateful for all she did to make this event one that is still being talked about.  You can check out her website at www.olivierevents.com.
